Description

La Metairie du Vignaud is a 18th Century Perigourdine farm house situated on a private woodland estate (a Domaine Forestier). The property has been sympathetically restored to provide comfortable accommodation whilst still retaining all the character, charm and quirkiness of a period property.

Downstairs
The accommodation is on different levels, entering the house from a small private terrace.

The lounge has television (satellite with international channels), hi fi music player and comfortable seating.

The fitted modern kitchen has oven, microwave, dishwasher and large American fridge.

The breakfast room has an original bread oven, table and chairs.

From the breakfast room a doorway leads through into the large dining room with solid wood table and chairs and large stone fireplace dated 1819.

The utility room has a washing machine and dryer.

There is a double bedroom and a double room with a single bed downstairs, plus a large family bathroom and toilet.

Upstairs
The hallway has stairs to the mezzanine over the lounge. The mezzanine has three single bed

A double bedroom is off the mezzanine.

The Pool House
Completely separate from the main property is the pool house next to the 12 x 6 meter pool including a large dining area, with a cooker, fridge and sink, summer kitchen (Cuisine d'Ete). There is also a shower room and toilet.

The pool house also has a double bedroom overlooking the pool and poolside terrace.

Area description

The property is a short drive from the local village, approached by a private road leading up the hill through the woodland on to the open plateau at the top. The extensive grounds give guests a large parkland area surrounding the house and pool, attached to the old stone barn is the jacuzzi.

The pool is private for the sole use of the guests at la Metairie du Vignaud. There is also a block with two garages for guests plus ample parking. in the grounds you will discover some wonderful views across the valley looking towards the Chateau de Montreal and for those who wish you may also take advantage of a completely private sun terrace for sun bathing (naturist). Local shops and supermarkets are a ten minute drive.

You can enjoy eating in, dining al-fresco next to the pool or choose one of the local and inexpensive restaurants. For that special meal the owners would recommendLa Ferme-Auberge de Biorne, a restaurant about 15 minutes drive just outside the nearby village of Lunas. Here you may enjoy traditional cusine, specialities include Canard (Duck) a l'orange, Civet de canard, Cailles au fois gras, Cassoulet, Magret, Confit and Fois gras poelle. Dine inside or out on the terrace and at a very reasonable price, reservations are essential. The Perigord is renowned for it's gastronomy and is the best value for money in the whole of France.

Staying at the property provides an ideal place to relax and unwind. There are several well signed footpaths which cross the forest and valley so you can enjoy the simple pleasure of a walk in the beautiful countryside.

The location is an excellent point from which to set out and explore all that the Dordogne has to offer. You may choose to follow the 'Route des Vins' around Bergerac or visit St. Emilion, the region is world famous for it's wine, which you can sample and perhaps take home with you.

The area is full of history and pre-history, from chateaux to caves and cave dwellings, plus wonderful medieval stone villages. Enjoy just strolling around the villages or for the more energetic try canoeing. The pace of life is slow and the climate is very agreeable.
