Description

Chapelle is situated on a small ridge in a rural location, surrounded by plum orchards, woodlands and meadows. At the beginning of April, the house is surrounded by white blossom. Due to its elevated position, the views from all aspects are stunning!

The house sleeps six people. Not only is its position elevated, but the cellar is at ground level and so the ground floor itself is reached via a few easy steps to a terrace and glazed room.

A fly screened veranda runs the length of the south east facing side of the house. This provides the ideal place to eat and relax in the shade.

The ground floor comprises a sitting room, a glazed terrace room and further terrace. Fully fitted kitchen, twin bedroom, large shower room with lavatory, bidet and hand basin.

A wooden staircase leads to the first floor. At the top of the stairs is a bedroom with two single beds.

There is a further very large bedroom with a double bed (also with a single person sofa bed, suitable for a small child) and bathroom with bath, lavatory and handbasin.

The ‘figure of eight' pool is located in the garden and is fully fenced for safety. (Use is entirely at personal risk.) It is 4' 6” deep throughout and is therefore ideal for children (under supervision) and adults. It is surrounded by a terraced area with appropriate pool furniture. It is regularly serviced and maintained each week by a technician.

The large garden is completely laid to lawn with fruit trees. It is fully fenced (secure for children). The garden affords extensive views out over the valleys and woodlands of the area.

The house is within easy reach of Castillones (a ‘bastide' town) and Cancon to the south. The region of ‘ Lot et Garonne ' provides opportunities to explore the valley of the Lot and Dordogne and the other major rivers.

Area description

The old farmhouse of Chapelle is situated on a small ridge between the villages of St. Maurice de Lestapel and Segalas.

The local town, Castillones, is a ‘bastide’ settlement, set high on a hill commanding views over the surrounding countryside. The town is built around an ancient square (where the market is held). Many of the nearby towns hold weekly markets, where one can sample the delicious and varied local produce; cheeses, foie gras, wines, prunes (some chocolate coated!) fruits and vegetables and so much more. If you don’t wish to buy, you can simply sit in one of the street cafes, sample an aperitif of the region and watch the world go by!

For more sophisticated shopping there are the historic towns of Bergerac and Villeneuve. Bordeaux is a fascinating city with an attractive ancient heart, well worth a visit. On the way, take a break in the vineyards of St. Emilion and taste the best of local wines. Chapelle is ideally located for any wine enthusiast to compare the produce of the vineyards of Bergerac, Bordeaux, Cahors, Duras and many others.

The valleys of the Dordogne and Vezere with their prehistoric cave sites and stunning castles, are fascinating places to visit. These rivers and the River Lot to the south, have carved impressively deep canyons as they flow west through the limestone plateau to the sea. They also offer opportunities to sample the river fish or take a cooling dip!
