Area description

Mas Soula is set in a commanding position above the village of Le Tech. Originally a Spanish goat farm has a long and chequered history. Built in the late 17th century the house has been used as a farm, a customs outpost and to house families during the Spanish civil war.

Most of all our village is a step back in time and is much unchanged by modern life. Much revolves around foraging for food. In the spring it is wild asparagus and moreilles, in early summer you have cherries, peaches and apricots and in the autumn huge porcini mushrooms and the grape harvest. There are two hunt groups in the village and in late summer and autumn they hunt the plentiful wild boar, wild goat and deer. It is a comon sight to see the chasse come down from the mountains in their 4x4's with their catch, usually a huge boar, strapped to the bonnet of the car. Needless to say the local cafe and the charcuterie feature wild boar as their produce. Others search out a different food for the famous catalan cargolade, wild snails.

In the early evening you can find the locals sat outside their houses chatting and watching the world go by. The local children play in the playground and later families congregate in the main place for a communal game of boules which often last until the early hours. Four times a year the village hosts it's own festivals which inevitably involve a community meal, much hilarity, music and dancing.
