Aspectos destacados: One Bedroom Cottage all set on One Level, Heated Swimming Pool, Own Terrace, Lovely Surrounding Countryside, WIFI

Beautifully restored one bedroom cottage all on one level with your own terrace, use of a large heated pool, 16 acres of land with a stream flowing through the grounds.

Set in the heart of the gently undulating French countryside of the South Vienne and below the historic regional city of Poitiers, lie the cluster of attractive stone built buildings known as La Logerie.

A working farm until 1994, the conversion of the cottage is set in 16 acres of tranquil rolling countryside.

Lavender cottage sleeps 2 - 4

Well equipped kitchen, lounge/diner with door to terrace, sofa bed and dining area.

The double bedroom has an en suite shower and WC. This cottage has no steps/stairs, wide sliding door to bedroom and shower room, and low level light switches.

A small tree lined stream meanders its way through the grounds, providing a cool and pleasant retreat from the sun.
Available to all guests is a superb swimming pool measuring 12 metres by 6 metres, incorporating Roman steps and a solar shower. The pool is surrounded by a patio area where sun beds and parasols are provided.

From the pool terrace there are wonderful views of the stream, woodlands and countryside beyond. It is possible to fish in the stream, which runs through the grounds and also to stroll along its banks.

Table tennis, darts, badminton, volleyball and boules are available at La Logerie as is a childrens play area with adventure fort, slide, swings, see-saw and sand-pit. Guests have access to the tennis court just a couple of kilometres away in Mauprevoir.

It is possible to fish in the stream, which runs through the grounds. The surrounding area is also ideal cycling country, gently undulating with plenty of small villages and hamlets through which to travel, and perhaps stop for a rest and refreshment!

Fields of sunflowers, corn and wheat predominate in the surrounding countryside, creating a rural paradise of peace and tranquillity.

An old long disused railway line adjacent to the property now serves as a byway, teaming with wild flowers and bird life. Buzzards circle lazily in the summer sky and towards late evening the barn owls announce their presence with their familiar prolonged shriek as they commence their hunting forays.

The area is ideal for walking and within easy reach is the River Vienne for water activities, and the towns of Poitiers, Cognac and the coast.

The pretty village of Mauprevoir is 2 kilometres distance. A small well stocked supermarket, boulangerie, pharmacy, post office, garage and bar/restaurant amongst other small traditional enterprises combine to make the village so evocatively rural French.

To complete that perfect day, perhaps a barbeque in the evening with a glass or two of the local wine.

Área de descripción

The area is ideal for walking and cycling, with a nationally designated trail nearby. Also within easy reach is the River Vienne, for water activities, some excellent restaurants, Poitiers, Cognac, various chateaux and the coast.

The village is very well maintained with the River Payroux running through it. It has a plan d'eau (man made lake) and park, a small sports stadium, tennis court and church. There is a fresh fish stall every Thursday morning.

The town of Civray a few kilometres further on, has its own more substantial market every Tuesday and Friday.

Places to visit

The capital of the region, this attractive city has a history of over 2000 years. With over 100 church towers alone, there is much history to explore, plus excellent shopping facilities. A number of interesting designated walking routes through the city will lead you to most places and buildings of interest, including the numerous streets of the medieval quarters.

On Thursday & Saturday mornings from 8am, a large & varied market occupies Place Charles de Gaulle, beside the Notre-Dame-la Grande church.

The old part of Poitiers is dotted with lively cafes, busy bars & cosy restaurants. The cafes flanking Place du Mal Leclerc are the places to go for a drink & to people watch. Here you will also find the best patisserie in town, Patisserie Bajard, just off the square at 8 rue Carnot.

Snakes Island at La Trimouille
Snakes, giant lizards, iguanas and giant tortoise, an introduction to the world of reptiles. Among other things there are tropical houses and instructional displays to help in an understanding of these amazing creatures.

Monkey Valley at Romagne
No cages or barriers in this park, containing more than 15 species of primate, 200+ animals in all, living in complete freedom on natural wooded islets. You can join in feeding time, which takes place several times a day. There is a café for refreshments en route around the park and a gift shop to pick up all manner of monkey related gifts.

Eagles Castle at Chauvigny
In the magnificent setting of the medieval town of Chauvigny you can watch displays of a variety of birds of prey, including Condors from the Andes. Also worth a visit whilst in this area are Saint-Savin with it’s Romanesque abbey (a UNESCO world heritage site) and the Chateau of Trouflou at Bonnes.

Only 15 minutes drive from La Logerie this small town is worth a visit. The tower of Charlemagne and abbey, one of the oldest and largest Benedictine abbeys in the western world, is of particular note.

L’Isle Jourdain’
An attractive small town overlooking the river Vienne. The village square has one or two cafes to have a drink or meal & watch the world go by. An impressive, now disused railway viaduct spanning the river is now used during the summer months for organized bungee jumping at weekends.

La Rochelle
Very attractive walled town on the coast, with many excellent seafood restaurants. Among the sights are the towers at the entrance to the old harbour, and the Great Clock in a gateway leading from the harbour to the town. A mix of properties dating from the Middle Ages, renaissance and 18th century, arcaded streets and museums, can all be found within the town.

An attractive town, spanning the River Vienne about 15 minutes drive from La Logerie. Each year in August it hosts an international music festival.

This unique ‘theme park of the moving image’ is a must to visit for most. Designed to appeal to both adults and children, there are simulated rides, water activities and incredible cinematic experiences, most with an underlying technological theme. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes within the complex to enable you to make the most of a full day’s visit, culminating in a very impressive laser and fireworks display.

About 1¼ - 1½ hours drive. Well worth a visit, not only for the delightful tours & tastings of the various Cognac houses scattered around the town, but also for the attractive riverside town itself.

Eating Out

There are numerous delightful restaurants in the vicinity, both in the surrounding pretty villages and in the larger nearby towns. The following is just a selection, and we have given a broad indication of quality/price. If you need assistance with booking arrangements, please do not hesitate to ask. Particularly with the more local restaurants, it is always worth mentioning that you are staying at La Logerie.

Le Diamant, Mauprevoir
The local bar/restaurant. A 4 course set meal is available at lunchtime at a cost of €10.50 and in the evening there is an à la carte menu. Sundays between 11h-15h is a ‘brunch’consisting of English breakfast with wine & coffee for €13.50. Every 2 weeks on Wednesday evenings is a theme evening buffet at €25 including wine. Snacks are also served during the day. Closed Mondays.

Le Payroux, Payroux
Recently reopened under new management. Four different set meals, ranging from €13 to €23 as well as à la carte. Open 7 days a week. Excellent quality food at good value prices. Pleasant ambiance & very good service.

Le Saint-Romain, Saint-Romain en Charroux
An excellent value restaurant - a challenge to eat all that is put in front of you! A husband and wife partnership, he is the chef, and Madame is "front of house", very eccentric with a peculiar sense of humour and a dress sense all her own! Average cost per person £7 - £10.

Hotel du Commerce, Civray
New owners & recently refurbished. Good menu & value for money in pleasant surroundings. Terrace overlooking the Charente river available during the summer.

Auberge de l’Ecurie, Usson-du-Poitou
Extensive menu, good choice of wines, excellent standard. Towards the end of the evening the chef invariably comes round to check that all is well. Madame, who controls front of house, is charming, if somewhat eccentric. Average cost per person £15 - £20.

Le Vieux Chateau, Gencay
Excellent quality food, particularly good reputation for fish. Popular with the locals and has a good atmosphere. Recently extensively refurbished. Price range £15 -£25 per person.

Hotel/Restaurant du Barrage
Small intimate restaurant, charmingly traditional décor, overlooking the River Vienne at L'Isle Joudain. Very good value, with comprehensive choice of fixed price menus (average cost including wine £15). Simple and inexpensive wine list.

Auberge de la Tour
Pretty restaurant overlooking the River Vienne at St. Germain de Confolens, itself worth a visit, to include the ruins of the old chateau, situated high on the hill with magnificent views of the River Vienne and the surrounding countryside. Also in the village are one or two interesting craft shops. Restaurant prices - mid range, approximately £15 per head plus wine. The wine list is surprisingly comprehensive, ranging from modest cost to very expensive, so choose with care.

Hostellerie Charlemagne, Charroux
Good and varied imaginative menu, attractive table presentation and good ambience. One of our favourite restaurants in the area. During the winter months there is a very attractive log fire which along with the décor and lighting provides an intimate atmosphere. In summer, it still retains a cosy feel. Price range - £20 - £25.

La Grimolee, Port de Salles
A delightful restaurant on the banks of the Vienne. During the summer you can enjoy an aperitif on the terrace overlooking the river. First class food and presentation, beautifully presented in excellent surroundings. Quite an expensive restaurant for this area, but definitely worth it for that special meal. There are three set menus ranging from €16 to €35 plus a la carte.

Le Bistro de l’Absynthe, Poitiers
Situated in rue Carnot (near to the Carnot car park) this bistro/restaurant is owned by Camita, originally from Cornwall, and her French husband who is the chef at Vingelique (see below). Excellent food, both in quality and variety, and particularly good value at lunch time -from €8 very popular at lunch time, so advisable to book.

Also owned by the same couple who own Le Bistro de l’Absynthe. An excellent gourmet restaurant & our favourite. The décor, ambiance & service are first class, as is the food. It is also extremely good value with 2 courses for €20 or 3 for €30 as well as a ‘plat de jour’ at lunch time for €9.

La Taverne de Maitre Kanter, Poitiers
Again situated in the rue Carnot, this is a large restaurant with a wide choice of food, but specializing in seafood and dishes from the Alsace region of France. Quality and service is good, with the added advantage that the restaurant is open seven days a week from noon until midnight.

La Table du Jardin, Poitiers
A charming small restaurant, situated at 42, rue du Moulin a Vents (near to the place de Notre Dame). Decorated in a most original way, representing the garden, including washing lines, wheel barrow etc. Delightful food, and reasonably priced. Very popular so you may have to wait for a table at lunch time or book in advance.

The village of Mauprevoir (2 kilometres) has a small but well stocked supermarket with a butchery counter. There is also a boulangerie, pharmacy, bar & post office, thus providing most day to day needs.

Civray (15 kilometres) is the nearest large town, with a good range of shops, both traditional in the town centre, and out of town supermarkets etc.

Poitiers, an old medieval city and the capital of the region has, as you would expect, just about everything you could require. There are various markets not too far away, a few of them are as follows:

Civray- Tuesdays & Fridays

Gencay- 2nd & Last Thursdays & Saturdays

Poitiers- Every day except Monday

Confolens- Wednesdays & Saturdays

Ruffec- Wednesdays & Saturdays

L'Isle Jourdain- Saturdays, Wednesdays, Fridays

Charroux- Thursdays
