Descrizione della struttura

Courtyard Cottage is ideal for exploring the beautiful Dordogne. Relax with views of the countryside, cool off in the splash pool. Great for couples. Sleeps 2 - 3.

Descrizione dell'Area

Les Herissons is a converted barn, part of an old farm situated in a quiet little hamlet in the countryside not too far from the nearby town of Neuvic on the River Isle. Courtyard Cottage is ideal for a couple and you are well placed to set off and explore the Dordogne region and all that it has to offer.

A small private drive leads onto the property between the open aspect garden and the farm courtyard. The courtyard is almost fully enclosed with a good sized lawned area, outside seating and covered barbecue, plus the old well house.

Across the courtyard the buildings form an L shape with the owners accommodation on the right hand side and the two gites on the opposite side. Little House is tucked away to the far side and between Little House and the owner’s house is the adjoining Courtyard Cottage which links together the whole farmhouse ensemble.

Courtyard Cottage
The open plan living area has a small kitchenette. The kitchenette has a mini oven, two rings, toaster, pots and pans.

The large living dining area with the old fireplace has small television, comfortable armchairs and dining table.

King size double bedroom has en-suite shower and an extra single bed. A cot is available if required.

Outside there is a dining table and parasol for those warm summer evenings relaxing in the courtyard. There is also further seating across the courtyard and a covered barbecue area and the owners leave the courtyard for the use of the guests.

The other side of the property has the garden which is open and includes a small ‘splash pool’, an above ground circular pool about 1.2m in depth, great for the kids and anyone else who just wants to cool down, but not a swimming pool.

The small hamlet is quiet and safe with no passing through traffic.

In Addition
There is a laundry room with washing machine available for use by the guests.

The owners are pleased to welcome you after your journey to the gite with a Table d’hote (evening meal) on arrival, taken with them as their guests.

Local Area

Château et Parc Botanique de Neuvic.
Built on the banks of the River Isle, the chateau has some splendid Renaissance frescos in the bedroom of Henry IV. The building was changed during the 18th century to make a large salon overlooking the river and a chapel, Louis XV. The botanical gardens stretch to some 6 hectares and the riverside path ends at the the Grotte de Diane, a romantic vision from the 18th century used as a spot for a noble rendezvous.

Maisons de la Double à Neuvic.
The area of the Forest of La Double gave rise to a specific type of house built from wood, earth and stone. These buildings are timber framed with compacted mud and straw walls a traditional tiled roofs. There would be one or two rooms for the family to live in, an attached barn for the animals and a bread oven.

These were the essential components of a farm. Simple and harmonious the architecture mirrors the close connection between man and his environment. Entrance is free.

Moulin à Huile de Noix - Moulin de la Petite Veyssière, Neuvic.
Discover one of the last working water mills and the traditional know how used to make hazelnut oil, a method handed down over many generations. During the winter months this is a working mill producing hazelnut oil and throughout the summer the mill can be visited with explanations on how things work. You will see how the enclosed water wheel drives all the mill machinery using the hydraulic pressure proved by the water.

The Dordogne
Hiring a car makes it easy to explore this verdant region of France and with a wide choice of self-catering accommodation available you can choose your own style of property. You will need more than a week or so to find your way around and explore the region´s many towns and attractions, but whatever time you spend it makes for a wonderfully relaxing holiday.

While temperatures can soar in the height of summer - from July to August - the region is generally pleasantly warm from March through to June and from late September through to early November.

The region is a favourite destination for outdoor types and adventure sports enthusiasts - the many rivers of the Dordogne are perfect terrain for swimming, canoeing and kayaking; while there are caves for exploring and steep rugged rocks for climbing and abseiling. Horse riding, mountain biking are also popular activities among visitors to the Dordogne and there´s no end of opportunity for countryside walks and picnics.

The towns and villages of the Dordogne are a joy to visit and those who visit the region outside of the peak summer season will find a wonderfully slow pace of life in the markets, restaurants and sleepy village squares. One key spot to visit is Domme - a historic walled town that sits high on a riverside. Here visitors will find not only picturesque old cobbled streets and squares, but also dramatic caves and handsome historic buildings.

Foodie types and wine buffs will be in their element during a break in the Dordogne, with copious places to eat delicious local dishes. From smart formal restaurants to rustic countryside cafes, eating out in the Dordogne is always an experience. Truffles, walnuts, duck, goose and even foie gras are widely consumed in the area and the markets are a riot of colourful fruits, vegetables and other local produce.

Wine lovers can enjoy the fruits of Bergerac and Bordeaux vineyards, famous the world over. Tours of the wine growing regions are increasingly popular, although those hiring a car will need to take it easy on the samples!
