Situated in the south of the Deux Sevres region of the Poitou Charentes, La Moderation is in the ideal position for those wanting to explore this beautiful region, or just to sit back and relax in the sun.

Our gite, is a former barn attached to the end of the main building of this ancient farm dating from the 1800’s which we now run as a small family camping and caravan site in the south of the Deux Sevres. We are in the heart of the Poitou Charentes region, “La Couer de la Charente”.

This area has on average around 2400 hours of sunshine every year, and is second only to Provence and the Côte d' Azur! Because it is largely undiscovered, we do not have the crowds of tourists that you will find in some of the other better known tourist regions in France. This secret area has conserved its tranquility and the unspoiled beauty of authentic rural France.

In summer the golden fields of sunflowers are a real treat for the eyes and the surrounding countryside is fairly flat, open farmland. There are plenty of pleasant walks along tracks which are also ideal for cycling, with only occasional traffic. There is plenty of wildlife especially the birds of prey and if you are lucky you may see some of the small deer that roam the wooded areas and fields around us.


La Moderation
The gite has a spacious kitchen dining / living room area on ground floor. The living / dining area has table chairs, TV, video, DVD, radio plus a bed settee.The kitchen with electric oven, gas hob, fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle and all pots, pans, cutlery, crockery and glasses etc, everything you need.

There are two bedrooms, one double and one twin, plus a bathroom on first floor.


Outside
Large secluded grassy area to the rear of the gite, where you can relax in the sun or sit in the shaded areas. Small patio to the front for the afternoon and evening sunshine. Outdoor table and chairs plus a barbecue supplied.

There is a shared above ground swimming pool - 9.5m x 4.5m - with sundeck.

All set behind high hedges within our fully enclosed private grounds where you can be assured that your children and pets will be safe to play

The local area is unspoiled rural France at it's prettiest. Ancient sleepy stone villages surrounded by open farmland and small woods. In summer there are large fields of bright yellow sunflowers following the sun across the skies. The roads are very quiet with little traffic, and between the fields many quiet tracks with just the occasional tractor - perfect for family cycling or walking.

Many types of bird can be seen including birds of prey circling above, evidence of the abundance of small wildlife all around. Along the edges of wooded areas small herds of deer can be seen.


Cognac
Cognac is about an hour south of us, it is famous all over the world thanks to it’s famous mamesake Cognac, the grape-based spirit that has been made here for the past 300 years - French writer Victor Hugo called it the ‘liquor of the gods’.

It is a town full of history,King François 1st was born here in 1494. A contemporary of King Henry VIII of England he is considered France’s first Renaissance king. The spirit was first made as an alternative to wine as a preventive drink against scurvy – wine was difficult to transport and took up a lot of space. Double-distilled and turned into brandy (cognac) it was more compact and more stable so travelled well but also tasted better after being aged in oak casks.

Today the town of Cognac continues to revolve around the spirit, its fortunes rising and falling according to the popularity of the drink.


Inland beaches in the Poitou-Charentes
You don't need to be by the coast to spend a day at the beach – it is a French tradition to create artificial beaches by rivers and lakes, both natural and man-made. Usually called plan D’eau or étangs, they are life-guard patrolled during the summer months and are usually accompanied by a café plus a playground for young children. Some will also have a watersports centres.


The fabulous theme park that is Futuroscope!
If your idea of a great day out is a mix of rides that make you scream plus jaw-dropping 3D films that take you white-water rafting across the Nile, then to the depths of the ocean and even into outer space, Futuroscope is made for you. The theme park is the top attraction in the Poitou-Charentes and second in France, and has an impressive 70% visitor return rate.

Created 25 years ago the 60-hectare park, with its landscaped gardens and fountains, contains a number of futuristic-looking pavilions in which the films and rides are housed. One-fifth of the 23 attractions are refreshed every two years but every year there is something new.

Termini e condizioni

The term holidaymaker as mentioned below means the leader of the party or the person making the booking. It is this person who is responsible for the booking and for all members in the party

1. Reservations will be made on receipt of a deposit of 25% of the total cost of the stay. This may be waived at owners discretion.

2. Payment of the balance of the total cost of the holiday booking is due eight weeks before the date on which the stay is to begin. Failure to ensure that such payment reaches us by this date may result in the cancellation of the holiday.

3. The information on the site has been compiled as accurately as possible at the time of publishing the web site. However, facilities may be ALTERED and or WITHDRAWN as deemed necessary by the management. If you have any special needs or preferences, please discuss these fully with us.

4. The holiday maker undertakes to keep the accommodation and all fixtures, fittings and facilities within the accommodation and on site in the same state of repair and condition as at the commencement of their stay and also undertakes to leave them in the same state of cleanliness and good order as when they arrived.

5. A fully refundable security deposit of €200.00 will be required for each booking. Such deposit to be paid either in cash on arrival or can be arranged via a Paypal deposit in advance if required. This deposit will be repaid to the holidaymaker on completion of their stay if paid in cash. Or within seven days of completion if by credit card. Any damages, breakages or additional cleaning costs etc will be deducted from this deposit before refund.

6. The owners, their management or staff, will not be liable to the holiday maker, for any injury, loss or damage to them or their property however this may be caused. It is the holidaymaker's sole’ responsibility to ensure that adequate insurance is in place to cover them, their entire party and possessions..

7. Management reserve the right to, (a) refuse entry to the site or to refuse to take bookings without giving a reason; (b) ask guests behaving in an anti-social way to vacate or leave the site immediately without recompense; (c) make changes to the layout and specification of the accommodation as may be necessary.

8. All guests must strictly observe the safety and welfare instructions displayed around the site. Your attention is specifically drawn to the safety notices relating to the Swimming Pool & plunge pool particularly regarding the safety of children. Also to those in the toilet facilities that are serviced by a septic tank.

9. The management team (or representative) are to be allowed access to the holiday accommodation at any reasonable time.

10. The number of persons using the accommodation or site is not to exceed the maximum number stated in the property description or indicated on any booking form.

11. If you find it necessary to cancel your holiday, this contract is legally binding and means that in a court of law you will still be liable for the full cost of the holiday. We therefore strongly recommend that you consider some travel or holiday cancellation insurance.

13. If you cancel your holiday, and you either have no insurance or the cover you have does not apply to the reason for cancelling, you must still pay the full cost of the holiday. In such cases, we will make every effort to re-let your accommodation. If successful, a refund of monies, less your deposit, will be returned to you. If we are unsuccessful in re-letting or re-booking, you will be liable to pay the full cost of your cancelled holiday.

14. We reserve the right to cancel any booking already made should the property become unavailable for some reason(s) beyond our control (storm damage for instance). A full refund of monies would be made to the holiday maker in these circumstances but we are under no further liability.

15. In the event of a holiday maker altering the dates for their holiday after payment has been received, an administration charge of €10 will be payable.
