Descrizione dell'Area

Cymbeline accommodates 4 people, with ample space for a cot or an extra bed. There are two large bedrooms, an adjacent shower room, a spacious family bathroom and a downstairs cloakroom with a WC and hand basin. A stair gate is provided.

The cottage is part of La Longère Rose, an 18th-century Poitevin 'long house' set in five acres of gently sloping gardens and meadowland, with a large salt-water swimming pool. The property's barns and stable have been converted into three luxurious holiday cottages.

Situated in a rural hamlet in the heart of the Poitou-Charentes, La Longère Rose is ideally located for exploring the wide beaches of the Atlantic coast, local attractions such as Futuroscope & Puy du Fou and the historic towns of Melle, Poitiers, Niort & La Rochelle.

The Lounge
The open-plan lounge area is furnished with two sofas, a coffee table, an uplighter for easy reading, satellite TV with a DVD player and Wi-Fi/ethernet access to the internet. The bookcase contains a selection of paperbacks and tourist brochures along with details of local attractions, markets and restaurants. Board games are also available to borrow. All the windows have mosquito screens.

The Kitchen
The kitchen is equipped with everything we think you could possibly need for your self-catering holiday, including a 5-burner gas hob, an eye-level electric oven with a spit roaster, an eye-level microwave/combination oven, a built-in dishwasher, a large fridge-freezer, a range of small appliances, a set of saucepans, Pyrex oven dishes and matching glasses, cutlery & crockery. Kitchen linen is provided, along with an initial supply of cleaning materials and dishwasher tablets. If you think we’ve forgotten anything, just let us know!

The Dining Area
The contemporary French dining table in the dining area seats up to six people. Plenty of crockery, glasses and cutlery are provided. Highchairs and booster seats are available for younger guests, along with their very own plates, bowls and cutlery!

The Double Bedroom
The double bedroom is furnished with a double bed, a single futon, a wardrobe, bedside tables with lights and a mosquito screen on the window. A ceiling fan keeps the room cool in the summer months - and blankets and heaters are provided for the cooler months. Bed linen is supplied and changed weekly.

Twin Bedroom
The Twin bedroom has two full-size single beds, a wardrobe, bedside tables with lights and a mosquito screen on the window. A ceiling fan keeps the room cool in the summer months - and blankets and heaters are provided for the cooler months. Adjacent to the twin bedroom is a shower room with a shower, a WC, a well-lit vanity unit and a built-in hairdryer with shaver point. All taps have thermostatic controls for setting the water temperature.

Cymbeline’s family bathroom has a large bath (170cm x 80cm) with an over-bath shower, a WC, a well-lit vanity unit, a heated towel rail and a built-in hairdryer with shaver point. All taps have thermostatic controls for setting the water temperature. Towels and bath mats are supplied and changed weekly.

The private patio is equipped with a garden table & chairs for six, a parasol and a gas-fired barbecue.

The Grounds
Guests are welcome to explore the gently sloping gardens and grounds which surround La Longère Rose. Arranged on four terraces, the grounds extend to nearly six acres, with the pool and potager on the top terrace, the house and chickens just below, the orchard and meadow below that and a field and marsh, which border a river, on the bottom terrace. There is room to spread out, play cricket or rounders, fish for the elusive trout, watch the wild birds or just sit quietly by the river.

The Gardens
Inspired by the gardens created by Prince Albert for his children, the Jardin Potager at La Longère Rose is Cherrie’s pride and joy. We grow seasonable vegetables for eating all-year-round, for freezing, for pickling and for jam-making - so don’t be surprised if you find some fresh produce on your patio table in the morning!

The Pool
The south-facing swimming pool (11.5m x 4.5m) slopes gently from the Roman Steps at one end, where the water is 0.8m deep, down to the far end, which is two metres deep. The pool is in an enclosed part of the grounds and has an anti-plunge alarm, which complies fully with French safety regulations. The water purification is a salt-water system, which is less harmful for the environment. Sunloungers are provided on the surrounding terrace and lawn - and for those who prefer not to sit in full sun, there is a shady area close to the pool.

The swimming pool is enclosed by thick hedges and access to the pool area is through a gate. For additional peace of mind, an anti-plunge pool alarm is provided, which complies fully with French safety regulations. Parents are asked to supervise their children in and around the pool at all times.

A paddling pool has been provided for younger children to use when they don’t feel like going in the larger pool.

Toys for Toddlers
La Longère Rose has some outdoor toys for younger children, along with some bicycles, a badminton set and a football with a goal for older children. The local tennis courts are a short walk away.

The Games Room
The Games Room is located in a hangar and has a full-size pool table and a table tennis table. It is also an ideal place to store bicycles and motorbikes. The Games Room also houses a shared laundry room (with a washing machine) and a water treatment plant, which supplies the whole property with soft, filtered water.

Additional Facilities
In addition to the pool, La Longère Rose has a boules piste in the grounds, along with a badminton set and a football with a goal. Bicycles are also available for guests to borrow.

Home from Home
Cherrie & Ian have furnished and equipped their holiday homes to the highest standard. They have tried to provide everything you could possibly need - such as internet access and baby equipment - to make your self-catering holiday as relaxing and stress-free as possible. During your holiday, if you think that your hosts have forgotten anything, just let them know!

Posti da visitare e altre cose da fare...

We choose the Poitou-Charentes area after falling in love with the area's traditional rural villages, which are surrounded by fields of sunflowers and delightful, unspoilt countryside.

The village of Paizay-le-Tort has a children’s playground, tennis courts, a football pitch and a skate park. Although the nearest shops are in Brioux or Melle (both 5kms away), it is possible to buy bread, fish, meat and general groceries from local traders who visit the village nearly every day.

Out & About
Nestling in the valley of the Berlande river, Paizay-le-Tort is located on the routes of several marked footpaths and cycle paths. Walking and cycling are a great way to see the surrounding countryside - and bicycles can either be borrowed from La Longère Rose or hired locally. Other sporting activities on offer in the area include tennis, sailing, canoeing, horse riding, karting.

La Martinette is surrounded by quiet roads and tracks which are ideal for walkers and cyclists. Fishing, secluded picnic spots, local markets and a good choice of restaurants are all a short distance away. Further afield you'll find châteaux, zoos, the Atlantic beaches, theme parks, fishing, water sports and riding centres.

To go fishing anywhere in France you will need a 1-Day, 15-Day or Annual licence. You can buy a licence from post offices, supermarkets or on the internet. "Private" fishing in private lakes or ponds must be paid for locally. The River Berlande, our local river, is restocked with trout each year, so a day spent fishing should provide you with a tasty lunch or supper!

The flat, open roads and lanes make this area perfect for cyclists of all ages and all abilities. We have five bicycles available for our guests to use or we can arrange bike hire for more serious cyclists. There are several marked cycle routes in the area around Paizay-le-Tort. Should you want to explore further afield, you are welcome to borrow our guide books with maps showing many more routes.

Motor Sports
Motor sport has a long history in France - the "24 Heures du Mans" is only two hours away from La Longère Rose and the heats of our local autocross championship take place just down the road in the summer. In addition, the nearby "Circuit du Virigeant" offers a year-round programme of events, the National Motocross Championships are held in St-Jean-d’Angély and the annual "Circuit International des Remparts" is takes place in September in Angoulême.

Water Sports
A choice of water sports are available at "Lac du Lambon", which is a 30-minutes drive away from La Longère Rose, or you can hire canoes and kayaks in St-Jean-d’Angély. If you prefer to swim, head for the lovely beaches on Ile-de-Ré and Ile d’Oléron - or visit the "Centre Aquatique Atlantys" for a day of fun for the whole family.

The town of Melle has a lively market every Friday, where you can absorb the area’s rural atmosphere as you stroll around the market stalls which surround the restored 18th-century halles (covered market). Choose from a wonderful array of fresh vegetables, meat, bread, cheese, locally caught fish and many other delicacies, as well as clothing and household goods. Other local towns with markets include Lezay on Tuesdays, Celle-sur-Belle on Wednesday, Brioux-sur-Boutonne on Thursday, Chef-Boutonne on Saturday and Aulnay-de-Saintonge on Sunday.

Activity Parks
The exciting Futuroscope is about an hour away from La Longère Rose - and Puy du fou is about two hours away.

Silver Mine
The silver mines at Melle were discovered by the Romans and were mined from the 6th to the 10th century. At first, the mine’s lead deposits were more important than the silver, providing raw materials for pipes, plates, dishes, beds and stained glass windows. As time went on, the silver from the mines was used for making coins, which have been discovered all over Europe - the continent’s first Euro! The different geological events which contributed to the formation of the ore which contains the silver in the mines is explained in an exhibition (with an English commentary) - and you can also visit the mine’s lovely gardens, where you’ll see the plants that were commonly used at that time for medical cures, for cooking with and for making dyes. Please note that the silver mines are not suitable for our younger children or for pushchairs.

La Vallée des Singes
Discover over 350 primates and thirty different species living in natural surroundings in this unique animal park. As you stroll through the grounds, look out for gorillas, silver marmosets and agile Red-faced Spider Monkeys, especially at feeding time! There is also a children’s farm and an adventure play area - and you can buy food at the snack bars or take your own picnic to enjoy in the shady, well-equipped picnic areas.

A Shady Spot
The River Berlande is a minute’s walk from La Longère Rose and its tree-lined riverbanks are ideal for shady summer picnics. The river is home to an amazing variety of wildlife, including golden oriole, hoopoe, kingfishers, woodpeckers and large raptors. In season, fishing for freshwater perch and trout is permitted.

Sompt is a pleasant 20-minute cycle ride from La Longère Rose. Visit its restored lavoirs set in medieval gardens where women, until the late 1950s, would gather daily to do their washing and gossip. There is a picnic area under the trees, as well as an adventure playground and a public loo! During the Second World War, both the SAS paratroops and Lysander aircraft would land at Sompt to support the local Résistance.

Mouton Village
Visit Mouton Village with its "Maison du Mouton" and "Jardin des Agneaux", where children can help to feed the lambs! See how cheese is made from sheep’s milk and then taste it, listen to a story told by a shepherd and his grandson, Nicholas, then take time stroll through the grounds, where you’ll discover 250 plant specimens and 23 different breeds of sheep grazing in six hectares of woodland. Mouton Village also has a shop, a children’s playground, restaurants and shady picnic areas.

Melle has been a town since late Roman times when silver was discovered in the caves adjacent to the River Beronne. The town grew in importance during the time of the Frankish Kings, becoming one of the major sources of silver for coins in the 12th century. Visit the town’s silver mines, its Motorbike Museum or follow the ’Discovery walk’ (English audio guide available). Melle also has a market every Friday, a Music Festival in May and a Jazz Week in early June.

The ancient town of Melle has three Romanesque churches. The church of St-Hilaire is the most beautiful of the three churches, but all merit a visit - as do Melle’s lavoirs and fountains, including the medieval fountain and basin called the ’Pré de la Maladerie’, which was only used by the town’s lepers. Melle’s ’Arboretum Chemin de la Découverte’ is a six-kilometre walk where you’ll see a collection of over 100 roses and over 1,000 species of trees and shrubs. Melle and the surrounding area are steeped in history, with many Romanesque châteaux, traditional mills and ancient forests to explore, along with the martyred village of Oradour-sur-Glane, which was completely destroyed in the Second World War.

La Venise Verte
Situated about an hour away from the Atlantic coast, Le Marais Poitevin - known as ’La Venise Verte’ - and its beautiful landscapes have always been a source of inspiration for artists and poets. For over a thousand years, this verdant area of marshland (which was once a coastal gulf) has slowly been reclaimed and now has a picturesque network of canals crisscrossing it, which you can explore on foot, bicycle or by boat. The quaint villages have plenty of bars and restaurants where you can enjoy a refreshing drink or a relaxing lunch.

Built during the Middle Ages, the abbey in Celles-sur-Belle is one of the most beautiful churches in the region. Restored during the 19th century, you enter this 12th-century abbey through a beautiful, Romanesque archway. An impressive flight of stone steps leads down into the narthex, nave and main body of the church, which measures 70 metres x 27 metres in total. The rib vault is 17.5 metres high. The abbey also has a magnificent choir, apse and transept, along with four chapels along each of the side walls, including the delightful Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament.

La Rochelle
The coastal town of La Rochelle with its iconic ancient battlements has a traditional fishing port, a modern marina and many delightful boutique-style shops, restaurants and beaches. During the summer months, the town’s main shopping street is pedestrianised, so we recommend that you use the excellent ’Park & Ride’ service provided.

Termini e condizioni

The Cottages forming part of the property known as La Longère Rose are offered for holiday rental subject to confirmation by Cherrie & Ian Wilson (the Owner) to the renter (the Client).

To reserve a cottage, the Client should complete and sign the booking form and return it together with payment of the initial non-refundable deposit (25% of the total rent due). Following receipt of the booking form and deposit, the Owner will send you written confirmation of the booking. This is the formal acceptance of the booking.

The balance of the rent together with the security deposit (see clause 5) is payable not less than eight weeks before the start of the rental period. If payment is not received by the due date, the Owner reserves the right to give notice in writing that the reservation is cancelled. The Client will remain liable to pay the balance of the rent unless the Owner is able to re-let the cottage. In this event, clause 6 of these booking conditions will apply. Reservations made within eight weeks of the start of the rental period require full payment at the time of booking.

A security deposit of £200 is required in case of, for example, damage to the cottage or its contents. However, the sum reserved by this clause shall not limit your responsibility to us. We will refund the security deposit (less any amounts for breakages etc) within four weeks after the end of the rental period.

Subject to clauses 2 & 3 above, in the event of a cancellation, refunds of amounts paid will only be made if we are able to re-let the cottage, and any expenses or losses incurred in so doing will be deducted from the refundable amount. We strongly recommended you to arrange a comprehensive travel insurance policy (including cancellation cover) to have full cover for damage to the Owner’s property, consequential losses, the party's personal belongings, public liability etc, since these are not covered by the Owner's insurance.

The rental period shall commence at 4.00pm on the first day and finish at 10.00am on the last day. We shall not be obliged to offer accommodation before 4.00pm and you will not be entitled to remain in occupation after the time stated.

The maximum number to reside in the cottage must not exceed the numbers stated on the booking form, unless specifically agreed by us.

We aim to provide a peaceful and tranquil setting for your holiday. When booking you agree be considerate towards other guests and neighbours, to take good care of the cottage and to leave it in a clean and tidy condition. We reserve the right to make retention from the security deposit to cover additional cleaning costs if the Client leaves the cottage in an unacceptable condition.

Please report to us without delay any defects in the cottage or breakdown in the equipment, plant, machinery or appliances in the cottage, garden or swimming pool, and arrangements for repair and/or replacement will be made as soon as possible.

The Owner shall not be liable to the Client: For any injury, loss or damage to the Client personally, their belongings, or vehicles;

For any temporary defect or stoppage in the supply of public services to the cottage, nor in respect of any equipment, plant, machinery or appliance in the cottage, garden or swimming pool. Under no circumstances shall the Owner's liability to the Client exceed the amount paid to the Owner for the rental period.

The Swimming Pool & All facilities are strictly for the use of Residential Clients only. No third parties will be granted access to the facilities.

The bringing of pets onto the property is not allowed.
