Description

Torcon 2 is a large 17th century farmhouse with 5 bedrooms complete with 10m x 5m private swimming pool and is set in a tranquil location near the border of the Dordogne in the heart of the Bordeaux wine region.

Ground floor
The cozy 1640’s French farmhouse kitchen with original fireplace is well equipped with:
Dishwasher
Coffee maker, kettle, toaster & food processor
Large gourmet stove with 7 rings, hot plate, large grill and 2 ovens (gas hob electric ovens)
Selection of kitchen utensils, pots, pans & dinnerware
Large kitchen table with antique chairs. (Seats 8 people), there is also a large dining room
Double door Fridge/Freezer with cold water dispenser & icemaker

From the kitchen there is a door leading to the large dining room. This wonderful space seats 10 people comfortably.

The living room has original tiled floors, a lovely restored fireplace and French doors opening up onto the garden.
Comfortable and airy library/ TV room where you can lounge, read or watch satellite TV.

Full Catering service available, prices start at 20 euros per person.

Master Bedroom 1 - Double bedroom with walk-in dressing area / wardrobe.

Bedroom 2 - Pair of single twin beds with original fireplace.

Bathroom facilities
Master bathroom with roll top bath in front of the fireplace. 2 sinks, a walk-in shower, bidet and a wc. This can be accessed directly from the Master bedroom as well as the hallway opposite bedroom 2.

1 separate wc across the hall from bedroom 2 and next to bedroom 1.

Bedroom 3 - King size bed and en suite shower room/wc.

Bedroom 4 - Large double bed or twin beds, can be changed to make twin beds.

Area description

There are country walks from the house in the vines and the woods, organised walks are also available via the village tourist information office in St Sernin. The local award winning vineyard is within walking distance for the relatively fit, and offers an informative & interesting tour as well as tastings. They also organise several events throughout the year including very popular "Jazz in the Vines" evenings.

A small selection of facilities at the pretty hamlet approximately just over 1 mile away, including superb tennis courts, vineyard, pizzeria, small shop & tourist information office. Guided walking tours of the local area are also available.

Duras
The house is 2 miles from the XIII century bastide town of Duras. The market square is host to restaurants, cafés, bars, weekly traditional French market, and a night market during the summer, plus a boulangerie, pharmacie, banks with ATMs and pizzeria with weekly live music, A comprehensive supermarket and petrol station are located here.

There are many festivals and events going on through out the region including a very popular annual Jazz festival held in early July in Monsegur 8 miles away and several events at the Chateau de Duras.

Exploring the Area
This is the ideal base from which to explore South West France. Located in the region of Aquitaine on the 3 borders of Gironde / Dordogne / Lot et Garonne and is considered to be one of the most picturesque areas of France. Bordeaux is approximately an hours drive to the west and Bergerac is 45 minutes to the east, St Emilion 30 minutes north

Monsegur and Duras are ancient Bastide towns set around a market square which are host to weekly markets and also a weekly night market during the peak summer season. There is a good selection of shops including cafes, bars and a pizzeria which host's weekly live music.

There is also a cinema in Monsegur, which does show international films in their original language version.The market squares are also hosts the many festivals and events throughout the year.

Wine and Gastronomy
The Bordeaux wine region has 21 appellations. Visit some of the many local Caves and Chateau who offer free tastings and tours while you choose a bottle or two.

Not to be missed is the world famous St Emilion, just a short drive away. A designated world heritage site and is truly stunning. Explore characteristic narrow lanes lined with wine merchants, cafes, restaurants and interesting independent shops. A guided tour of the monolithic church is highly recommended.

Follow Rick Steins French Odyssey (Bordeaux to Bazas) trail across this region and encounter some of the best culinary experiences France has to offer.

Bordeaux
Bordeaux is a designated world heritage site a must for all visitors. This cosmopolitan city offers a diverse range of attractions. The golden triangle has a fabulous range of shops for those shopaholics.A rich variety of architecture forms the backdrop for the street cafe's, restaurants, bars and not forgetting the superb Grand Theatre.

Dordogne
The Dordogne is just one of the many places to visit for day trips. Anything from canoeing or boat trips on the Dordogne river to exploring ancient villages.

Markets
Most villages and towns hold weekly markets full of fresh and interesting local produce. An ideal place to pick up your holiday mementoes and gifts.Both Monsegur and Duras also have night markets during the summer where you can eat and have a drink as well as browse the many stalls.

ACTIVITIES

Cycling
The countryside around our property is perfect for cycling, whether it's just a gentle ride around to explore or, if you are a keen cyclist, a long training ride on fantastic stretches of road to get the blood pumping whilst taking in the fantastic views. Cycle hire is available to your door.

Tennis Courts
Good quality tennis courts are located in Monsegur, Duras & St Sernin de Duras and are usually booked via the local tourist information office.

Canoeing and Kayaking
Canoe hire is available on the rivers. The river Dropt winds through the valley with a slow flow on it, whilst the large river Garonne (20 minutes away) has a faster pace. The Dordogne river is an hour away which has a faster pace but has plenty of canoe hire opportunities and literally just go with the flow and be picked up further down stream. Of course the easiest way is a boat trip and let some one else do the work.

Beaches
The Atlantic coast, with over 150 miles of golden sandy beaches is less than one and a half hours drive away. Great fun for all the family, simply relax and soak up the sun or try your hand at surfing. Alternatively there are also fresh water lakes with a beach and facilities. The nearest is at Blasimon (about 30 minutes drive) and is very popular with families.

There are many pay and play golf courses within the area, the best being the beautiful Chateau Des Vigiers Golf and Country Club.

Zoo & Water park
Zoo de Bordeaux Pessac is approximately an hour drive.
Aqualand water park is approximately 90 minutes drive located at Bassin D'Arcachon.
