With more than 1,000 restaurants in Lyon, France’s third largest city, you really will be spoilt for choice.

Not only is Lyon the centre of French cuisine, but it also boasts a rich Romanesque and religious heritage and is registered as a World Heritage site.

Located in east central France, between Paris and Marseille, the city has many fascinating monuments and more than 30 museums.

There is also a charming botanical garden, located in the centre of the city, with more than 1500 different plants.

Lyon rivals Paris for shopping, with many major brands and well-known designers represented in the Carré d’Or district. One of the largest shopping centres in Europe is located between Rue Victor Hugo and Rue de la République.

Nightlife is vibrant and varied in Lyon with a huge variety of restaurants as well as chic bars and clubs, theatres, concert halls, an opera house and a casino.

Places well worth a visit include Saint-Jean Cathedral, with its treasures of sacred objects d'art and stained-glass windows, and Notre-Dame Fourvière Basilica, built in the 19th century by the architect Bossan.

Lyon is connected to the north (Lille, Paris) and the south (Marseille, Montpellier) by the TGV. The city is also served by two airports.
