Description

Le Clos is a delightful house situated in a secluded area of the village of Fleury, a few minutes drive from the lively town of Villedieu-les-Poêles and approximately 30 minutes drive from many lovely, sandy beaches. The perfect setting to unwind with a glass of wine or local cider - a bottle of each is in the fridge waiting for you!

The house is easily accessible from ferry and airports and provides a perfect base for exploring the best of rural, coastal and historic Normandy or taking a trip to the Channel Islands.

Le Clos has undergone a complete professional and sympathetic renovation and extension to provide modern holiday accommodation which retains much of the character of the original building – notably oak beams, a large granite fireplace and wooden floors. Outside there is a terrace area, a lawn area and parking for several cars.

Comfort and attention to detail are all important at Le Clos. Furnishings are comfortable throughout with many antique pieces. Pictures and ornaments all add to the French charm and homeliness of the house. Please view the photographs on the home page.

Accommodation comprises:
Large Master bedroom with ensuite bathroom and WC
Twin bedroom – beds may be moved together
Small double bedded room ( please note 120cm bed) with cot (sheets not provided for cot)
Shower room with multi-jet hydromassage jets and WC
Well equipped fully fitted oak kitchen including dishwasher and microwave
Dining area – farm house table with eight chairs and high chair opening onto terrace area
Downstairs WC and utility room with washing machine
Large beamed lounge with woodburner (wood provided) and sofa bed
Large garden area with children’s swings and monkey rope.

Within the bookcase there are several books on the vast range of wildlife that you may see in the area and possibly from Le Clos, Normandy in the Second World War (in English and French) and various paperbacks in French and English.

There is also a gent’s mountain bike (Le Clos is an excellent base for cycling), a selection of toys and games, beach games, a boules set and a table football game.

Fleury, about a mile away, offers a bakery, garage, café / restaurant and tennis court. Villedieu-les-Poêles, a five minute drive away, offers all you would expect from a medium sized town including a supermarket and indoor swimming pool.

The practical side of things!

Linen including sheets, duvet covers, towels (not beach), bath mats and tea towels are provided and beds made for your arrival.

We aim to ensure that Le Clos has the basic things you need without wondering what to bring and what you might miss! So, in addition to cutlery, crockery, glasses and cooking utensils you will also find limited supplies of the following:

Salt, pepper, sugar, toilet rolls, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, soap, bin bags, cleaning materials, matches and candles (for emergency use only please).

You will also find two pillows per person, a fire extinguisher, smoke alarms, an iron, ironing board, pegs with washing line to rear, an electric kettle, TV, DVD player with a small selection of DVDs, CD player, radio, a portable BBQ and pen and paper.

There is also a digital safe for safe keeping of passports and valuables.

Directions

The region is well served with good road, rail and air links and there are several options to choose from when travelling from the UK.

By Car
Close to the ferry ports you are spoilt for choice in crossing the English Channel with regular sailings into Cherbourg, Caen, St. Malo and Le Havre from the south coast ports in the UK by all the main ferry operators. Condor Ferries also offers sailings to the Jersey and Guernsey if you would like to make a day trip or stopover crossing The English Channel.

By Air
Ryanair fly to Dinard from Stansted, East Midlands, Bristol and Birmingham which is just over an hour’s drive from Le Clos - car hire is reasonably priced and pre-bookable from the UK.
You can also fly to Rennes from Southampton with Flybe.

Driving To Us
Once you have arrived in Normandy, Le Clos is easy to find, the village of Fleury being just west of Villledieu Les Poêles off the A84.

Area description

We stay in the village several times during the year to visit family and friends and love visiting the area. This area of Normandy has much to offer visitors of all interests. In the immediate area, picturesque Villedieu-les-Poêles produces renowned copperware and has a lively market every Tuesday which attracts shoppers from the surrounding villages. It has many authentic copper workshops, a bell foundry, lace museum, Norman furniture museum, several restaurants, an interesting maze of alleyways to explore and an indoor fun pool. There are also English speaking Estate Agents if you are interested in investing in your own holiday accommodation!

The village of Champrépus, a couple of miles away, has a fascinating zoo for animal lovers of all ages. There are numerous possibilities to taste cheese, cider or calvados in the area. There are also many tempting restaurants nearby and numerous brocantes and depôts ventes if you are interested in antiques or picking up a bargain! You will find a folder within the cottage which includes leaflets on a range of local tourist attractions including horse riding and golf.

Le Clos also provides the ideal base for exploring further a field. Here is a brief list of possibilities:

Granville – “Monaco of the North” - with its Casino, beach with seawater pool, old walled town and Christian Dior’s childhood home. Learn to windsurf here!
Mont St Michel – either by car or a walk or horse ride across the bay at low tide – a must!
Various regional theme parks
Coutances – shopping and cathedral
World War II sites – the beaches, cemeteries, Arromanches, Avranches, Caen
Carrolles / Jullouville – seaside towns with great beaches, swimming and rockpools
St Jean-le-Thomas – where Eisenhower stayed following the initial liberation
Le Bec d’Andaine, Le Gouin du Sud and Dragey – fabulous dunes and beaches
Hauteville-sur-Mer and Regnéville – the best of coastal Normandy
Bayeux – with its famous tapestry
St Malo - Attractive Breton walled town
Dinard – Pleasant seaside town
Hambye – Medieval Abbey
La Haye Pesnel – Fabulous flower festival every three years in August
St Sever – forest and lake walk; ideal for picnics. Horse riding possibilities
Jersey – only an hour’s crossing away from Granville (free port parking)

Terms and conditions

The following Terms and Conditions are designed to protect both yourself and the property. We hope they are not off-putting! There is nothing you probably wouldn’t expect! Please read them carefully before signing the booking form. If you would like to discuss any aspect of the house or your booking, please do not hesitate to contact us.

1. The Property known as Le Clos, Fleury, Normandy, France is offered for holiday rental subject to
confirmation by Mr Jeremy and Mrs Sandrine Moyle.

2. To reserve Le Clos the Guest should complete and sign the booking form and return it together with payment
of the initial non-refundable deposit (25% of the total rent due). Following receipt of the booking form and
deposit, the Owners will send a confirmation invoice. This is our formal acceptance of your booking.

3. The balance of the rent together with a security deposit (see clause 4) is payable not less than 8 weeks
before the start of the rental period. If payment is not received by the due date, the Owners reserve the right to give notice in writing that the reservation is cancelled. The Guest will remain liable to pay the balance of the rent unless the Owners are able to re-let the Property. In this event, clause 5 of these booking conditions will apply. Reservations made within 8 weeks of the start of the rental period require full payment at the time of booking.

4. A security deposit of £200 per rental period is required in case of damage to the property or its contents. However, the sum reserved by this clause shall not limit the Guest’s liability to the Owners. The security deposit should be paid with the rental balance. The Owners will account to the Guest for the security deposit and refund in full within two weeks of the end of the rental period providing no damage is reported to the property or its contents.

5. Subject to clauses 2 and 3 above, in the event of a cancellation, refunds of the amounts paid will be made if the Owners are able to re-let Le Clos and any expenses or losses incurred in so doing will be deducted from the refundable amount. The Guest is strongly recommended to arrange a comprehensive travel insurance policy (including cancellation cover) and to have full cover for the party’s personal belongings, public etc., since the Owners do not cover these events in their insurance.

6. The rental period shall commence at 4.00 p.m. on the first day and finish at 10.00 a.m. on the last day. The Owners (or the House Keepers) shall not be obliged to offer the accommodation before the time stated and the Guest shall not be entitled to remain in occupation after the time stated.

7. The maximum number of people to reside in the Property must not exceed 6 plus one baby unless the
Owners have given prior written permission. Camping in the grounds is not permitted without prior written
permission. Unfortunately, we do not accept pets at Le Clos.

8. The Guest and members of his / her party agree to be considerate guests and to take good care of “Le Clos”
and to leave it in a clean and tidy condition at the end of the rental period. Smoking is strictly forbidden at Le Clos. Although a final clean is included in our rates the Owners reserve the right to make a retention from the security deposit to cover additional costs if the Guest leaves the Property in an unacceptable condition. The Guest also agrees not to act in any way, which would cause disturbance to the residents in neighbouring properties (these are some distance away!), animals in neighbouring fields or the local flora and fauna.

9. The Guest shall report to the Owners’ agent without delay any defects in the Property or breakdown in the
equipment, plant machinery or appliances in the Property, or garden and arrangements for repairs and or
replacement will be made as soon as possible (depending on the nature of the problem this may not be
possible during your stay).

10. The Owners shall not be liable to the Guest:
For any temporary defect or stoppage in the supply of public services to the Property nor in respect of any
equipment, plant, machinery or appliance in the Property or garden.
For any loss, damage or injury, which is the result of adverse weather conditions, war, strikes or other matters.
For any loss, damage or injury to Guests either within the property or within the grounds.
For any loss, damage or inconvenience caused or suffered by the Guest if the Property shall be destroyed or
substantially damaged before the start of the rental period and in any such event, the Owner shall within seven days of notification to the Guest, refund to the Guest all the sums previously paid in respect of the rental period.
Unfortunately, the Owners are not in a position to offer alternative accommodation in such a situation although all reasonable efforts will be made to suggest other providers.

11. Under no circumstances shall the Owners liability to the Guest exceed the amount paid to the Owners for
the rental period.

12. This contract shall be governed by English Law in every particular including formation and interpretation and shall be deemed to have been made in England. Any proceeding arising out of or in connection with this contract may be brought in any court of competent jurisdiction in England.
