The Château is approached up a long private drive and is set amongst mature cedar trees. Château du Trichot is surrounded by sweeping lawns and 18 acres of its own land. The Château's own vineyard produces a fine red wine, once favoured by Tsar Nicholas II. Château du Trichot has been tastefully restored with modern facilities such as en-suite bathrooms.

Heated Swimming Pool, Flood-lit Tennis Court
Château du Trichot has a large, heated swimming pool (6m x 12m) which is enclosed by a safety fence. The south facing sun terrace has tables and chairs for dining outside, and the courtyard has a barbecue for parties by the pool. At the end of the garden there is a flood-lit hard tennis court.

The dining room has a long, baronial table and a log fire. The drawing room has a large open fire and a fine Bechstein grand piano. A television, stereo music centre and table tennis are provided for entertainment. The kitchen has an electric oven, microwave, gas hob, dishwasher and a large fridge/freezer. There are four double bedrooms, three with en-suite bath or shower room. The master en-suite double bedroom has a large four poster bed and a view across the vineyard towards the village church. One en-suite double bedroom has a mezzanine gallery with two single beds suitable for children aged 4-10 years old. Another en-suite double bedroom, the blue room, looks out to the gracious cedar trees in the garden. A further double bedroom with a four poster bed overlooks the pretty courtyard. Up the ancient stone staircase is a tower room with three single beds. On the ground floor there is an additional single bedroom.

Area description

This un-spoilt and exceptional corner of rural France offers much to do and see. The rolling countryside is perfect for walking and riding, there is easy canoeing on the rivers, and hidden under the earth are some of the largest and most dramatic caves in Europe.

The land is scattered with occasional hilltop 'bastide' towns dating from the 12th century, and fairytale castles from the same era. The area is known as "Aquitaine" and has long historic links to the English Crown through Eleanor of Aquitaine who, in 1152, married Henry Plantagenet, King of England (1154 - 1189). It was their son, Richard the Lionheart (Coeur de Lion) known for his bravery and skill in battle, who, with the aid of his Mother, defeated his Father to claim the English throne.

In spite of the beauty and fascinating history of the region, the chateaux are so lovely that many visitors spend the majority of their holiday enjoying the atmosphere and relaxing, rather than exploring further afield.

Local restaurants serve fresh, delicious and modestly priced French cuisine. The region is known for its paté de foie and rich red wines. Wine tasting and visits to wine cellars are easily arranged.
