Area description

Faysselle is in a peaceful countryside setting in the Lot et Garonne, surrounded by fields and woodland, with views across a valley.

The Lot et Garonne is to the south of the better known Dordogne, and its tranquility is much appreciated by our guests. No traffic jams, no crowds, just a gentler pace of life where the stresses and hurry of everyday life can be forgotten for the duration of the holiday.

Grand Soleil is one of three gites at Faysselle, and is situated at the end of a lane, with no passing traffic yet just five minutes drive from the local village of St Maurin with its shop, bar and restaurant. During the summer there is an excellent Night Market every Wednesday evening. Trestle tables are set up in the pretty village square and stalls provide a variety of local and international dishes. Everyone in the family can choose what they prefer, and then enjoy music and dancing until late in the evening.

The scenery of this area is hills and valley with breathtaking, far-reaching views from the plateaux. From the top of our lane on an exceptionally clear day, there is a wonderful vista of the Pyrenees about 80 miles to the south. It is a traditional farming area with field of arable crops, fruit trees, maize and of course the glorious cheerful sunflowers.

There is plenty to do in the area, with something to appeal to all ages in the family. Watersports on the rivers Lot and Garonne, riding, golf, tennis, fishing, go-karting etc, exploring the picturesque bastide (hilltop) villages, boat hire along the canal or river, Parc Walibi theme park, etc.

Day trips out can include the spectacular scenery along the Dordogne river, seeing the cave paintings of Pech Merle, exploring the Gallo-Roman Villascopia, the castle at Bonaguil or for a complete contrastperhaps a visit to the Space City or the Airbus factory in Toulouse.
